Mars

In a birth chart, Mars represents your drive to act: how you want, decide, assert yourself and defend what matters. It describes your courage, your anger and the fuel that turns a wish into a deed.

Mars, the red planet, takes about two years to travel around the zodiac. In a chart, it describes what you do with your energy. When something matters to you, do you charge, find a way around the obstacle, wait for the right moment? How do you react when someone steps on your toes? Mars answers those questions. It governs desire in the broad sense, sexual desire included, competitiveness, sport, physical and moral courage. It speaks of anger not as a flaw to hide but as information: it signals that a line has been crossed. Its sign describes your style of action, its house the ground where you’re most willing to fight. Held back, Mars often turns inward as fatigue or low-level irritation; expressed openly, it gives you the ability to say no, to begin, and to stand up for what counts.
