House 9
Horizons, study and meaning
The ninth house describes your need for horizons: long-distance travel, higher education, beliefs, philosophy, publishing. It shows how you search for meaning and what widens your view of the world.
The ninth house extends the third: where the third covers your neighborhood and school, the ninth covers foreign lands and university. It’s about whatever takes you further than where you started, physically or intellectually: a long trip, a foreign language, a demanding course of study, a religion or a philosophy of life. Planets in the ninth house often bring a thirst for discovery. Jupiter is comfortable here and favors teaching and travel; Saturn pushes you to build solid convictions, sometimes through long effort; Uranus brings unconventional beliefs. An empty ninth house doesn’t stop you from traveling or learning: the sign on its cusp and its ruling planet show how you widen your horizon.
